Anyone on here play the sax? Never really got into playing musical instraments, but always liked the sax, they are a work of art, anyway bought one a week ago, have been blowing on it for a few days, loads of youtube vids, really helpful, am managing to get a descent sound out of it, but a long way to go, it's good this time of year as not getting out to much, my wife also is enjoying it, though she is more musical than i am, she is definetly picking it up quicker than me, niether of us read music, but if i can learn a tune or two i will be happy. Any one else dabble?

They look very cool. I can imagine a silhouette playing the saxophone on a cliff over a beach and sea while the sun is setting in the background

I bought a couple of old yamaha saxophones (alto and tenor) 5 years ago from ebay during lockdown. I had a need to break the boredom and self-learn something.
I played clarinet in school so had a fair idea about the embouchure face-ache when you start. I found the fingering very similar to the recorder so picked it up fairly easily to the point of being able to play tunes.
I am working on playing by ear as I am very dependent on written music, and just experimenting with technique and trying to master a nice vibrato.
It is a great way to exercise the mind 🎷

I feel that that may be an understatement ;-)

He's regarded as a clarinet legend...

yamaha 4c mouthpiece Reco royal reeds 1.5

The 4c is a legend, I think everyone who plays probably has one in their mp collection. I use vandoren reeds mostly, but want to try the Legere reeds at some point because of their durability and consistency. Natural reeds can be a bit hit and miss.

At the point i am i will stick with what works, was advised by my teacher to not worry about any other type of reed.
Have you been playing long?

Tried a flute could not get nothing out of it. Quite fancy a curved saprano sax, something small i can keep in the camper when we go away, sitting in a forest and having a blow apeals.

Straddle the line, discord and rhyme
I knew a trumpeter once who decided to switch to sax. He was heavily recommended not to as the embouchure is different and you can really end up screwing up your lip muscles. He got away with it though.
