Stable door and bolted horses.

I've been getting to grips with Komoot and finding it useful.
Certainly less expensive, does my sort of cycling and runs on the phone.

Performed well recently in France, Belgium and Germany too.

For a self guided walking holiday I used ride with gps turn by turn on my phone and it worked very well. It gave spoken directions. That’s a premium feature. The company we booked it through provided the RWGPS turn by turn stuff to download onto phone.

well, I have now plotted routes on the OSMap GPStraining free online planner
Pulled in GPX i have found for various places - Devon, Dartmoor, Exmoor, Forest of dean, Scotland , Isle of Wight , Sidmouth and various routes around my home

modified routes, changed direction , created from scratch , that all works well and they load into various online apps OK too

Been on a few rides with the ROC and still working on the finer details - BUT it seems to work well so far
Will be tested in anger when touring the Forest of Dean in a few weeks , weather permitting

I'm now trying out the Twonav LAND application , a bit like basecamp - but as i have paid for all the 1:25K oS maps , I can use on LAND as well so giving that a go

Thanks again to everyone for advice and support

Too late for the OP (I hope you enjoy your new GPS btw) but anyway ...

I use my phone as a GPS a fair bit when walking. It doesn't have all the features a GPS has (but there's probably an app that does) and when I'm not looking at it, it's safely in my pocket - unlike a cycling GPS.

I have the OS app on there which has the OS maps that I have purchased on it.

Not great in very bright sunlight.
