I'm happy to go with whatever keeps me safe, rather than look cool (which is prob impossible if you ever saw my skinny white legs clad in lycra:blush:). However, my Allez is getting a bit tight for space what with lights, reflectors, computer etc. and that's before I clip on the saddle bag. My question is how essential are reflectors if you have lights. I have reflectors both front and back (on handlebars and seat post) and also on the wheels. As I said, I'm not looking to compromise safety but equally would prefer less clutter on the bike.

Depends on your lights imo..
I have zero reflectors on my bike, but i'm running 3 rear and 2 front lights.

If you've got decent front lights I'd definitely ditch the front reflector. If your back one is obscured by the saddle bag then there'd be no point in having it either. Bear in mind you've probably got some reflective areas on the back of your leggings or shoes, these would be more effective being lower down and more in line with car headlights.

I'd hazard a guess that the reflectors are the first thing that gets removed from a new bike when it leaves the shop ?

I dont have any reflectors on my bike

No reflectors here.

Three lights front + helmet light.

Two rear lights.

I always wear reflective ankle straps and a reflective vest / jacket, reflective strips on the gloves.

I don't think a couple of 2" square reflectors on the bike would make much overall difference.

So true - I whipped that off as soon as I took the bike out of the box:biggrin:

Thanks for the replies - I'll have a juggle but a bit more reassured should I need to get rid of a reflector.

No reflectors on any of my bikes: came off as soon as they arrive home. I've usually got single front and rear lights on most of the time. Bell has to stay: I like a good ding-dong.

Ultimately the more clutter created by lights, the more you will be seen. clip a light to your bag.

Reflectors stay on my bikes.

Got caught in a pissing downpour on a SUMMER afternoon. Sky turned slate grey and I couldn't see a thing.
Motorists switched their lamps on, but being SUMMER, I hadn't got lamps fitted.

Thank heavens I had something to make me visible.

My Galaxy has those Busch & Mueller dynamo lamps, which have reflectors built in. None of the other bikes have reflectors, but then they never go anywhere without lights.

Those times I'm grateful for my knog lights on my helmet. They're only small, but pretty eye catching.

Not all the time, but a lot of the time I'll have a set of lights in my saddle bag anyway....but the knogs are always there.

I'd say ditch the reflectors....and swap them for more lights ;)
