Some good advice folks thanks,I'll bag some cream and play around with seats etc,the big problem for me is not being able to feel anything on my left lower side apart from odd bits here and there I only know my left foot is on the floor because I feel pressure in my knee,so the sore is a bit of an open wound thingy now according to my wife.I'm going to rest it until sunday then get my nurse to apply a dressing and do a few gentle miles and see how it goes☺

In my recent experience the standard and fit of the shorts can make a difference. I recently bought a pair of cheap and cheerful Aldi shorts. The fit is a bit looser than I like, and the pad's a bit thinner and softer than premium brands. I've had two recent incidences of actual saddle sores, both times after using these shorts. A couple of days off the bike and the application of E45 cream soon has me back on two wheels again though. Conversely, to treat myself for being brave enough to enter a 100 mile audax I bought a pair of Boardman shorts for the event. Despite nearly seven hours in the saddle, no trouble at all with these.

Just back from the drs,it would seem it started as a sore then turned ulcerated which has now burst and has left an open wounddue to me contracting mrsa whilst in hospital with my broken pelvis he has put me on antibiotics and under no circumstances must I cycle until it is completely healed which could take anything from a few weeks to a couple of months to say I am pi#sed off is an understatement

You did the right thing by getting it checked

Heal well. Doing as you are told. Find another form of exercise, such as walking or swimming once it's healed more

Pay heed to your diet for weight and blood pressure control, salad is much nicer in the summer

Oh dear, that's rotten luck!
+1 for keeping active. Can you keep the pressure off it as much as possible to aid healing. Hope you've got some good dressings for ulcers and let the air get to it when you can. Have a high protein diet too for healing.
Good luck!
