Ok, been looking at this one on offer.

Any thoughts?
Never tried one, but they have a very good reputation and that's a bit of a bargain.

There is probably no one single fix as the answer here.
You'll find its more than just the saddle alone.
1. Ride out of the saddle at regualr intervals, standing on the pedals for 20 revs every mile or 2 will get some blood flowing into your butt and prevent soreness
2. Reduce the pressure in your tyres to 80 psi until your butt hardens and you can do longer distances
3. Get wider tyres until your butt hardens and you can do longer distances
4. Get a good pair of shorts (Assos is my favourite but very pricy although they do last)
5. if its chafing, get some bum cream (again I use the Assos one)
6. is your saddle too high (not enough weight thru your legs) or too low (too much weight on the saddle)
7. drop the bars putting more weight on your hands
8 or raise the bars so you can spend longer on the drops putting more weight on your hands
9. ride more, it really will get better
10. try a different saddle

The problem with Brookes saddles (apart from the ridiculous price and out of place look on most bikes) is that you can't just fit and forget them.

The Specialized BG saddles are pretty good.

Are you sure??? I was just about to post that the "body" "geometry" saddle on my Vita is, well, better than no saddle at all, but not by much. Body geometry - someone else's! I did a 30 miler on it on Saturday and can still feel it now. Padded shorts make it worse!

So no suggestions to the OP I'm afraid because I was about to ask the same thing - the best saddle I have used is the one that came on my no-name leave-it-at-the-station bike, I might just swap them over.

I assume that any saddle will fit any bike?? Are the rails and the bits where the rails fit onto (sorry if this is too technical ) universally the same?

Some saddles like the Brooks B66 I have on my Raleigh have twin rails which need a special clamp but most are standard.

Saddle choice is a matter of personal preference and I do love my Brooks (I also have a B17 and also a Wrights "B17") but I realise they are not for everybody. Anyone who doesn't ride a bike on a regular basis will find any saddle uncomfortable. If you do ride regularily and still find the saddle uncomfortable, then I guess you do need to change.

I do ride regularly, but the Spesh Vita is a new bike - with the BG women's saddle - and my ar$e is really suffering!!! I will try some of the tips on here about moving it back on the rails but I think the basic problem is that it's the wrong shape, and hard to boot (or hard AS a boot).

Some bike shops will have demos for you to try but it's not an easy solution. As Steve Austin says everyone will have a different suggestion. I eventually settled for an SDG Bel Air RL (Ti rails) which I like - I completed the Cumberland Challenge on it last year with no bother. Strictly speaking it's a Mountain Bike saddle BUT it looks pretty good on a road bike. Hope this helps?
