Oh no. I have an image in my head now, of a sad Clanger, that's almost too painful to bear....

Brian Cant yes, he's the other half of my childhood. Him and Johnny Ball.
Sad Clangers are very sad indeed. They do that whole body droop....

Hang on. Oliver Postgate, Brian Cant and Johnny Ball? That's three halves! You weren't paying attention when Think Of A Number was on were you!

Oh. I told Baggy about Oliver. Then we mentioned it to one of her colleagues. Who had never really heard of the Clangers, being born about 1982ish....

God I felt old.....

Together with a deflated swannee whistle sigh:sad:

I was counting Johnny Ball and Brian Cant as one half, and Oliver Postgate as the other.

Shows like Think of a Number should be on now, but as adult TV - we might gradually regain a population that knows stuff....

I heard an edition of I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue, where they did Swannee/Kazoo cinema, acting scenes from films, but with swannee/kazzo dialogue. They did the restaurant scene from When Harry met Sally, with the swannee as Sally. Scarred me for life that did.

One of the reasons I married Baggy is because she is the only person I have ever met who can do an accurate impression of a Clanger.

What a superb reason to marry someone.

I hope I meet someone like that one day.

Only 13 episodes of Bagpuss were made in 1974

The way people talk about it, you'd think there were more! Funny old thing, nostalgia.

I've never seen it. It wasn't on in NZ (as I recall) though we did get The Clangers and a few other British cartoons. I seem to recall Japanese ones (Speed Racer & Gigantor, for instance) and French ones (Chapi Chapo and, my all time fave and my avatar!... nah, let's see if anyone knows!!)

...and Calimero, I remember that as well.

I used to love cartoons. Some of them were so surreal. The animators must have been on acid to come up with some of the stuff they did!

Agreed, and a fair point. I'm sure there is some Bagpuss on youtube or some such, I'm sure I could get up to speed on it!

<ponders> Do I have an old video knocking around....?

You might wonder what on earth we're all blithering on about, but Bagpuss holds a powerful emotional attachment to those of us of a certain age.

If anyone likes a smoke... there is honestly nothing better than a bagpuss video to relax with (and to make you feel comforted if you are prone to 'the fear').

It would take more than Bagpuss to get me smoking again. Even if Oliver Postgate himself was on rolling duties....<shudder>

My favourite is that bagpipe who's lost his pipes.

And of course the moment when charley mouse exclaims 'IT IS A PRIMA, BALLERINA!'.

Classics, every one of his shows. A man who was responsible for warm memories from many childhoods.

And to think they did it all in sheds with very little money. They don't make people like that any more....
