Thanks for asking this question psmiffy.

Looking forward to answer.

Another question for erider.

Why even A719, erider?

which suggests that there may be something lacking in that.
The A719 rim is a standard price touring rim, they are good value for money and at the price they are, I have no complaints - I currently use them on two bikes. I put 'even' because the A719 isn't a premium rim, it's a regular rim that is good, and more importantly much better than the Sputniks in my opinion. I appreciate what it is like if you have a specific component on your bike that you are happy with and someone comes along and says it's nothing better than average.
As I said before the Sputniks are ok for the price. What I didn't like about them is that they were heavy without providing extra strength, the alloy compound doesn't provide great braking and wears unevenly and quickly despite the rims having thicker sidewalls than many similar rims. The quality of the eyelets is also very average to say the least, but if you think about it, what would you really expect at the price they cost?

Not saying your rims are Sputnik UP @ANT 666 , the comparison was made between these two in subsequent posts (including that the Sputniks were 'cheap').

Thought this 'CyclingAbout' article was an interesting read. "Most tourers experience over 20,000km of riding before needing to replace their rims. Ryde offer a carbide coating on their rims which is said to wear at a rate of 4x slower." Though not a fan of the Mavics (XM719).

"The Sputnik is . . also available with the famous Ryde CSS layer that quadruples the life span at least."
By the time we've any of us done 20,000km we'll be on discs, so the claimed 4x life benefit will have been wasted, with the added expense of expensive blocks and dodgy braking.

I'm not going down the disc route as the bike I've built is an expedition bike for an extended dirt road trip to the Aussie outback and its been built on the KISS principle.
