Run down when hot

For the second time this year when it gets hot, I feel pretty run down. I wake three hours earlier than usual, and feel like I've got the onset of a heavy cold (the beginnings of a sore throat, and general fatigue). Have taken some ibuprofen and just been for a run but all I could manage was a mile and a bit before calling it a day - which isn't a good sign as I want to do a slow ninety-miler (on my bike that is ) tomorrow!

I had a bit of hayfever for the first time last year (streaming eyes and sniffles from hanging around in a grassy field all day), but this seems more like a mild flu/fever. Would the combined medical wisdom of this forum think that I've got some sort of pollen reaction ? Or could it be down to that London smog I've been reading about? And, yes - I know it's best if I seek advice from a qualified professional..

You could try taking some non-drowsy antihistamines and see if you feel any better?

IME hayfever can make you feel pretty lousy - I find if the pollen count is high I do wake up earlier as once the sun is up...the flowers all open.

My husband doesn't exactly suffer fromhayfever, but seems to suffer from what seems to be borderline post-exercise asthma brought on by pollen - coughing, wheezing and sore throat. Antihistamine sorts it right out.

And yes, if they don't make you feel any better then it's probably GP time!

Also, take a lot more fluids. I think I've recently discovered that I sleep poorly (and hot) when I've not hydreated properly during the day. When it's warmer it's not easy to automatically up the fluid intake. . It needs to be an all day thing.

Cheers all. I've taken some clarityn and am pretty well hydrated, but no joy. It's the second time in two weeks I've felt this lousy, and again the day before a big planned social ride too. B0ll0x. Will go to GPs but won't get my hopes up that they'll come up with an accurate diagnosis.

Does tea count?

Still feeling rough. I'm wondering if I'm underweight now after looking at that other thread (Still have enough lard jiggling around my torso, so I doubt it). It feels like I used to as a kid when I'd get tonsilitis. Checked for strep throat but glands/tonsils look ok though. Hmm.

Edit: A tyre lever makes a great tongue depresser!
