Roux G8 Carbon Drive for commuting?

I am considering buying this for my 12 mile commute to work every day

The Roux Carbon Dive G8

What I need is essentially a cycle for roads but with some ability to do a small section of canal towpath.

I tried out various mountain bikes and hybrids and this seems to be the nicest ride and is quite nippy. The front suspension takes the edge of bumps and potholes and the internal hub gearing is good for the stop-start nature of commuting rides. I know nothing about belt drive bikes but it certainly seemed quiet to ride.

Any opinions, thoughts on this? Any alternatives I should consider?

Oooh nice looking bike

I have a Whyte Cambridge, it is seriously comfortable on rough roads, weighs 10kg, disc brakes. Standard derailleur gearing though (SRAM Apex)

I'm now considering this....
The Specialized Sirrus Comp Disc 2013 Hybrid Bike

It is lighter, has a wider range of gears, disc brakes and mudguards can easily be fitted. On the down side, I will lose the "no maintenance" aspect of having hub gears and a belt drive instead of a chain as well as the suspension fork.

Not very unusual and at odds thus with Pale Rider's assessment

I'd certainly look at the Whyte's - carbon fork on the Cambridge and Stirling (unlike the alloy on the Specialized), both 10kg or less. I've just done a lovely few miles on my Cambridge

Have a look at the new Cycling Active just out (July edition) - has a 4 page write up on the Roux G8 which might help your decision, and judging from the opinion of the tester we should all be ditching current modes of transport for one of these!!

In the end I went for the Specialized Sirrus Comp Disc.

What decided it for me was disc brakes (decent stopping in wet conditions) and fitting of decent mudguards (protection in wet conditions) and judging by how the weather has been recently, this was a wise decision
