This is an excellent way to plan routes. I put in 3 points:

A: Home
B: Somewhere roughtly where I want to end up at the far-side of my loop
C: Home

Then add clickpoints and drag the blue line to exactly where you fancy going (also to boost / reduce the mileage). The route distance will be automatically updated and displayed on the left. Make sure you select walk not car.
