Would love any thoughts on this frame. Has had a repaint at some point in the not too distant past. Metallic tangerine. Oddly (or maybe not?) it has had only one model name decal applied to the non drive side top tube. The drive side is clear.
Reinforced pump brazing does support it is a Concours however the head stock lugs differ ever so slightly to the advertisement for the Concours at the time of its release (see last pic). The original advert details that brazings were to be added at the time of order by the customer and this frame has had a number of cable guide and stops added as well as downtube shifter braze-ons. It has also had a rear hanger added to the rear drive side dropout and a cable bridge for rear centre pull brakes. The hanger and probably the gear lever braze-ons I suspect may have been a later addition.
Another braze-on, which I can only think is for the addition of a cycle stand, is between the rear chain stays and has a T shape cut-out. If anyone knows definitely what it was for then I’d appreciate your input.
There is also a short peg on the underside of the downtube below where the gear levers sit. It looks like it has been cut down and I am unsure what it might have been. Again looking for guidance here if anyone knows what it was.
The serial number is faint under the repaint but visible and in the correct place. Playing with the contrast sliders on the photo it looks like it is 51284. I am confident it is a 51 which I believe is the launch year for the Concours?
Thank you for taking the time to read and browse the photographs. I think it is a beautiful frame. Very light. Although I have no definitive plan on what components to use/source to rebuild the bike I do know I will likely build it slightly out of period in so much as selecting late 60’s to late 70’s kit. Drivetrain likely Campagnolo 2x5 speed. This so it is more rideable as it will not be a wall hanger.
Thoughts from the collective and build suggestions are welcome as ideas generate ideas. 😊
