Rotating Tyres

Anyone rotate their bicycles tyres? My back tyre is wearing more than the front so I thought I'd swap them around to even things out a bit?

i used to, but kept punchering the front, so now i just buy a new tyre

The best tyre should always go on the front so rather than rotating rear to front I would purchase new and put this on the front and the older front on the rear.

The last thing you want is a puncture at speed on the front going down those Welsh hills :blush:

I have got a new set of tyres. There is still plenty of tread left in the ones I have though so I was wondering about rotating them. If the front should be the best though then I might as well keep them as is.

Yep, if you are going to rotate your tyre use then the above is good advice.

I agree keep the best tyre at the front and don't rotate. Rear tyres "square-off" quite quickly and when put to the front will give strange handling.

So, if you buy a pair of tyres, leave them where they are, the rear will wear quickest and most likely become the most cut-up and p*nctured. When it needs replacing, move the original front tyre to the rear and put the new one on the front.

So the tyre that wears fastest, takes the most weight and is the least convenient to repair when a 'P' occurs will always be the most worn - and, therefore most likely to have puncture problems!

There may be a good reason for it somewhere, but I never have rotated tyres.

I get much more value out of using good quality tyres and checking them after every ride for embedded class etc. I ride about 10,000 miles a year and don't find the cost of tyres an issue.

That's what I do. Although I often just bin them both and buy two new ones.

I have two new Marathon tyres (couldn't resist they were going cheap!). If I'd have thought about putting the front on the back and the new on the front I suppose I could have got away with just buying one tyre! Anyways I'll keep both as is for now as there is plenty of life left in them. Then I'll change both for the new tyres and perhaps keep the old front tyre as an emergency one.

Good idea - If it was a fixed there would be no need to rotate tyres - just alternative direction of travel. Opening here for a stem/seatpin combination device?
