I took the bike into the shop this morning and had a chat about it. Bike sizing is quite a complex issue. Especially if like me your legs Torso and arms arent in the usual lengths compared to each other.Apparently my torso is very short.
I had set the seat slightly too high so that came down a bit and he flipped the stem giving me a little extra height in the bars.I have just done another fairly quick 15 miles (buffeted by the wind) and it feels much more natural allready.
I also moved the seat forward about half an inch and my hands now fall naturally on the hoods with a slight bend in the elbow and my upper arms at 90 degrees to my spine which apparently is all about right.
After doing about 3000 miles this year on my hybrid the different riding position is bound to take a bit of getting used to but I am enjoying riding the new bike allready .
I discussed buying an angled stem but he suggested I get out and do some miles first as often people do that then revert to the original a few months later. He has offered that if I really want to go down that route they will lend me an adjustable one to try out different angles before I buy one. But Im fairly certain now that I wont need to.
I have the bars rotated back to original position now ,had a short go in the drops while struggling into a headwind, gear changing was easy enough.
Its really nice having the different places for the hands,My hands arent numb at all .I think the carbon forks probably help in this respect,I have been surprised at how smooth the ride is I expecterd it to be much harsher than the hybrid and it isnt.
Many thanks to everyone for advice etc I am confident now that me and the Scott are going to get along fine.I think I should clean the Trek today as its feeling a little rejected
Rear mech naked :-)
