Why are results given to the press so early leads to mega speculation and in the event of a situation like Hayles the rider being viewed with suspicion which in some quarters will probably never go away.

Would have been hard to keep secret a test result of a World Championship rider on the first day of the World championships.

If you keep it quiet they will all say we are hiding something.

The "haematocrit" test is inaccurate due to levels fluctuating in the day, with hydration levels, illness and diet.

As a blunt tool it may have a place, but lets revise the acceptance.

The variation in the general population varies between 45 - 54% (depending on the report) so for Hayles to be pilloried for failing to meet the 50% target by a margin of 0.3% is ridiculous, especially when the result was within normal limits

Many of the spectators would have had higher levels. More a reflection of the price of drinks and availability of alcohol than a sign of performance enhancement though!
