They are absolutely everywhere around my neck of the woods in Cheshire. And I seriously do mean everywhere. Obviously a pot of money has been released and they have been told to spend it but all at the same time ??

Glad im on my bike nearly everyday rather than driving. Is it the same where you are ?

I don't think there are any more roadworks now than a few years ago; routine maintenance has almost stopped so we are heading for long-term problems and expense but patching and emergency repairs still go on; it's just that somebody knows your route to work and has decided to do all the work along that route just to hack you off.

Similar story here...

Over the last 18 months or so, whoever plans traffic in Newcastle has taken a serious dislike to roundabouts, digging up large ones which worked fine in favour of traffic lights. The area around Central Station is also being re-developed resulting in absolute chaos at peak (and non-peak) times.

They've also carried out an exercise in absolute stupidity on the high street where I live. It's a busy street, with several bus routes stopping on it; the stop used to be indented so that traffic could still pass, but they've filled in the stop in favour of pavement so that the bus blocks the lane.

Madness.

My dad was a highway engineer, and in Melbourne they focus road works in April (as I recall), being the driest month that was cool enough for bitumen to set. Rain and road repair don't go well together. I would imagine August would be the best month in the UK, with long days, less rain and less traffic. Certainly a lot of work in Twickenham and Hounslow.

Lots of Road works here in the North East, from removing roundabouts and installing multi-Traffic light junctions designed by Heath-Robinson*, to actually improving the surface. It is apparently due to the North East getting a pot of money for these works.

* And only negotiable after several tries so the locals know which non-logical lane to be in and the strangers clog the system up by trying to look sensibly at the layout!^^
^^ A degree in quantum mechanics seems to be the qualification needed to try and work out what the designer was thinking.

Loads around Norwich but it's all for improved cycling infrastructure and pedestrian friendliness apparently, so can't complain. Unlike the drones sitting in single occupancy cars complaining about all the other cars creating traffic jams, the waste of tax payers money, final nail in the coffin for Norwich city centre etc zzzzzzzzz..

They're renewing gas mains round by us, its been chaos for months, they are in our road for the next month, normally round here you are doing well to find a parking space on the road where you live, at the moment you are lucky to end up less than three streets away.
