Road or Segment Codes

Hi there

There's a couple of coded roads / routes / segments near me such as "HHC015" - Pishill, Oxfordshire

Any idea where this numbering system comes from, and whether theres a central lookup page for the segments.

When racing on the roads was illegal codes were given to courses and the codes have stuck. The letters if iirc relate to where they are so a lot of the courses in Cheshire start with the J prefix. My local 10 is J2/1. I am sure a more knowledgeable person will be along to elaborate.
