obviously it's your money and you can buy whatever bars you like - but if vibration is the issue then I think the bars will make sod all difference. You would be better off looking at your tyre choice, together with the pressure you run them at. That will make the single biggest difference to ride quality...

Thanks for your input. Always good to hear different accounts and views. I'll give them a try and see. I have just been paid for a homer I did and decided to treat myslef to Carbon bars.

That's fine - like I said. Nothing wrong with carbon bars (apart from the cost and the fact that they offer no obvious advantage). Personally, I would have started with the tyres, or added another layer of bar tape. But that's just me being practical.. ;)

I run my tires at 120psi and had fairly decent Cube tape on the bars. The roads round where I live and cycle are awful to be fair.

Good grief, how much? Curiosity got the better of me and I've just clocked how much these things cost. I know you said you got them at trade plus a bit more discount but even so

I seriously hope they solve your woes

Woes and a little treat for me. Lol

difficult to suggest a pressure without knowing your approx weight - but you don't look huge in your pic. If the roads are awful, then all the more reason to run a slightly lower pressure. Every tyre pressure is a compromise between comfort and pinch-flat protection, but even then 120psi is about 30psi more than I use for normal road riding. Try going down to 100 for starters...

Thanks for the advice on the tyre pressure. I'm 14 stone 10 pounds at the moment. Lightest I've been for 10 years, all done to the bike. Tought that running them at 100psi would cause too much rolling resistance.

I run Schwalbe Ultremo ZX tires which have a recommended pressure of 85-145 psi

On real roads, running lower pressures will improve rolling resistance, not reduce it. A rock-hard tyre will bounce over every bump in the road, deflecting your 'forward movement', while a softer tyre will absorb it and roll over it.

That's a 60psi range there. You will probably find that's the min and max rated safe pressures, not the 'recommended' pressure. Go for 100psi and go for a 25mm profile (or maybe 28 if you can fit them), if you haven't already...

out of curiousity Black and Yellow what pressure tyres do you think I should run being 9st 6lb?

on the subject of carbon bars, the best I have used to date is Zipp vukasprint, they are semi areo, have great internal routing and very stiff, specially when used with a decent stem such as the Zipp 145SL Stem. You can pick the bars up for under £250 if you shop around

surely at 9st 6 you just float, don't you..? ;) I'm 11st and ride 90psi on the roads with 23c tyres. On my winter bike I will usually use around 80psi (not one single puncture last winter in the wilds of west Wales). I don't know what you run at now, but you're lighter than me, so I wouldn't suggest going higher than that. Obviously road conditions play a part, but as a general principle, most people certainly seem to just bang their tyres up as hard as they will go with no reference to the potential benefits to be had in ride quality. Try experimenting with a few different pressures and see how you get on...

My FSA Plasma bars arrived into work today and I got the mechanic to fit them.

Love them! Commute home from work was so smooth.
