Obviously the modulation is the big plus on disks. I can see greater benefits for women as they don't generally have as much strength or hands as big as men to generate the breaking force.

For me though, I've never noticed cables flexing under braking load so I can only assume that this is down to the extra weight that you are carrying causing greater stresses under braking.

The one thing though that does great on me is people say it's only an extra 300g weight penalty. Well that 300g is the difference between the wheelset on my old bike and the new one, the difference in price between the two is about £700. Also about the same if you wanted to swap between say 6800 and 9000 to save 300g. It's a lot of weight on a road bike and costs a lot of money to shed.
There is no weight penalty if you use trp spyres. They weigh less than 105 calipers and use the same cables and levers.......

On some models the differential is way less than £700.

With hydraulic discs £1200:

With rim brakes £1000:

@SpokeyDokey have you put your order in ? I'm going to stick with the sl

@Ste pt1

Not yet. I want the bike but am having real trouble with the sizing. The 56 seems a tad too long and my arms feel 'up in the air'. The 53 feels best at the moment so I am giving it another try on Wednesday next week. I think it might just need a slightly longer (110cm instead of 100cm) stem to be ok for me.

I emailed Cube with my dimensions and they said I needed a 54!

Assume they mean virtual top tube when they said this? The Attain 53 is 53.7.

I hate being between sizes as I dither and both dealerships I have dealt with only offer very short 'rides' around the yard/block which makes it difficult for me to decide.

Also - if I can decide on size I might go for the HPC instead of HPA.

I have a Ribble CR3 with hydro discs for winter etc but have just got a caliper brake bike for the summer. Am sure next summer bike in a few years will be discs. Much better braking and much cleaner
