if, and only if, the frame and wheelset is specifically made for them and the brakes are decent quality. at the moment, this is an expensive option (a friend has a £3k spesh with disc brakes); buying a budget version will result in a heavier machine that is over-compromised by the disc brakes and you'd be better off buying a cross bike with good v-brakes or a standard road bike…

What conditions do you ride in?

My next roadbike might have them...but only so I can justify buying it as N+1 because it'll be different to the current fleet

For me it will depend on whether I can actually stop the bike from the hoods, need slim profile brifters

I've ridden a MTB with disc brakes in the hills of Andalucia Spain and had the back brake lock due to either the heat expansion of the fluid or the expansion of the disc. Either way it resulted in me having to remove the calliper to get home.
My commuter bike is a spesh MTB with disc brakes and I brake with 2 fingers and the bike stops on a sixpence.
But I still can't see an overwhelming reason for disc brakes on road bikes because of the added weight and complication.
So for me, I'll stick with v brakes, though looking at the range of bikes at PlanetX yesterday I don't know how long we will have the choice on mainstream bikes.

Added weight? My disc brake bike is 7.6kg, lighter than many rim braked bikes and could be lighter still if I desired.

Yes I have SRAM...but I don't know what their disc brake options are? And trying to find a bike with it to try won't be simple especially as I will want a titanium frame (there are few Ti disc brake roadbike frames and all seem to have shimano, I'd need to talk to enigma and fatbirds I would think )

Apex Rival Force Red all hydro, the cable equivalents will also pull Avid BB7 mechanical calipers etc. But yeah, the Shimano monopoly doesn't help a great deal

Yes all day long.
Where there are weight increases they are far outweighed by the better feel of discs, easier to brake, better performance in the wet and not eating your rims.

Would only get hydraulics or trp cable discs at the moment though.

I was an advocate of V's well into the introduction of discs, and I still see their advantages.
Moving house and experiencing different terrain made me move to discs.
I used to cycle in more clay like soil and now it's sandy.
When it got between the block and the rim,it was kicking hell out of them
