Road bike suggestions for the heavier cyclist

Has anyone got any suggestions for a road bike. I have a giant xtc sx mountain bike at the moment, which I have had for 10 years. I would like a road bike but my problem is I am 106K nearly 17 stone.
Any advice appreciated.

You'll be fine on most road bikes at that weight, even a carbon one.
Just check if the manufacturer states a maximum recommended weight before you buy.

What is your budget / have you got any specific bike in mind?

You're a lightweight, just within max recommended rider weight for most carbon road frames (110kg seems to be the norm quoted) so shop with confidence.

If planning on carrying luggage on you or a pannier rack, you might want to consider more spoked wheels but no issue otherwise

You could be a stone and a half heavier and still not have any major issues.I really wouldnt be concerned in any choice of bike.

I am "Over" 17 Stone and ride on full carbon rims, with daft race tyres and have completed some really rutty, cobbled long ish distance rides as well as a weekly commute through London Town (and the joys of the pothole)

Are you looking for a relaxed ride for long days or something racier for racing?

There are dozens of bikes in your price range, go to some local shops and see what appeals (Evans are good for no obligation test rides if you have one close)

I was 110kg when I bought my P-X and a scant 5kg lighter when I bought the KTM in February. If you use it often enough, you won't be that weight for long. I'm now 97kg.

Just stay away from minimally spoked wheels.

I was 19st at 'my peak' & have had several bikes with no major issues. Weak points will tend to be wheels & possibly bottom brackets, so keep some cash aside incase you need upgrades/replacements :okay:

I would recommend getting a used bike first off, just in case you don't take to road cycling much. Or if you like to go new then Decathlon is worth a look if you have one near you. Keep some budget aside for accessories too.
