Cheers. I really don't like the straps and wondering if it was some sort of different clipless fitting I've not seen. Thanks for your help

Shimano M520 are sub £20 if you won't want to use with normal shoes ever

They were my "beginner" pedals. At first I used to clip in on one side just to get used to it. I've never looked back since going clipless. Even going clipless on my spinning bike at home now as well.

+1 for the M520 - originally I had some 1-sided touring pedals but these are so much better.

Hi,

I've seen those on some bikes and have been similarly perplexed.

What is for sure is it does serve a purpose. I think there were myriad
cleat systems to be used fitted to your shoes alongside with toestraps.

My best and poor guess is some sort of compatibilty with clipless shoes
using toestraps, that generally have triangular shaped cleats, but why ?
The combination is clearly garbage compared to proper clipless pedals.

I can't see why they exist and are sold on several relatively budget road bikes.

I'm missing something .......

I've never seen such an arrangement sold as a pair of replacement pedals.

rgds, sreten.

Hi @sreten,I've had them unfastened and they do indeed flip and fit over the pedal at the front. I've ordered some m520s so they will be off soon enough.
