Such a prolific career. He was in so much stuff.

One thing that has stuck in my mind was a radio play, about 15 years ago, in which he played the one surviving child from the Pied Piper of Hamelin tale, as an old man. I must see if it's online anywhere.

Edit, it was called The Amazing Ratman Story, by Dave Sheasby, and was broadcast on 23 August 2000. And it's not available for streaming  https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b007mb5v

That is sad news, one of my all time favourite actors, I saw him in a few plays in London and Richmond back in the day, and met him twice, he was very nice man.

EDIT: He also played my favourite character in Fawlty Towers as the Spoon Salesman.

I rarely mourn "celebs" but Cribbins shone for decades and will be sadly missed. Wombles, Jackanory, Railway Children, The Mouse and the Moon, Right Said Fred, Dr Who, and a whole lot more...
RIP

So.....we'll have another cup of tea.

You must be of a different age to me if you link right said Fred to cribbens. I link it to the name of a band consisting of two muscular, bald, vest wearing singers in a band of that name.

Still, our 9 year old son liked the song about a murderer who buried a guy annoying him in a hole when he was about 6. I pointed that bit out to my mum when she put it on who said I was being ridiculous, then she played it and had the "oh!" moment. I bet there's a lot of songs people like and play for kids that's actually got a darker side to them.

I don't think everything of his has aged well though. Jokey murder song aside some of his calypso stuff isn't very safe these days. I think he's done blackface a lot through his career. Still a good guy and talented. Very clever guy I thought.
