most likely the peds didn't realise it was a shared path and were making a point (all to often a catalyst for dispute) of trying to show you, you shouldn't be there.
Problem is there's no polite way to stop and educate them so its best to let it go and move on with your life,
But as others have said you have no priority, in fact it is agreed that all vehicles need to look out for the more vulnerable users.. which in your scenario, is the ped
