Agree with Tynan: there's no rule about which hands position is right. I can ride for hours on the drops, especially with a head-wind! On uphill stretches I find I can get more power like that. (When I did the 10 day raid Pyrenean last year with a touring load, I needed some power).

Having ridden drops for longer than I'm gonna admit, I can't remember 'breaking myself in', but I can remember doing a lot of tweaking to get my bikes to fit how I like them.

My custom-built audax machine has the bars a little below saddle height and that's high compared to yer actual TdF set up. I could get it quite a bit lower by flipping the stem but I am too old for that sort of thing:sad:.
