riding on Stoney or wet mud

Hi all

quick question for all with brompton bikes with the most tires we all use. it can be all skittish with these conditions, ive found letting some pressure out to 60ish psi i get some better grip and seems to handles the conditions better, is there anything special to help ride this roads ? i don't think there is a of road tire available for the bike ?

Same applies to any tyre, you need some tread to navigate mud etc. Slick tyres are terrible, even on just wet grass. Lowering pressure is just a temporary 'fix' for that section of trail.

If you are mixing up terrain, you need a tyre that possibly has some slick centre ridge, with some knobbles - e.g. Schwalbe landcruisers !

There's nothing else for it - you'll have to buy a G Line.

Edit. Now showing available, 3 to 6 week lead time. I need to ride one bad, because if its more stable and stiffer than their diddy wheelers with my mass aboard then Brompton can take my money!

Depends where you're based as to how easy it will be to get a test ride.

My local dealer told me they won't be getting any demo bikes in as they're not a Gold dealer.

From what I remember, you're quite tall, so I reckon the Large would suit you.

I'm just under 6ft and I felt the front end too high.

Aye, fairly talle and quite a bloater muscular chap. Few folders feel stiff and stable for me, and the standard diddy wheeler Brompton flexes like Larry Graysons wristnin a force 9 gale. The ID9 is one of the few I've discovered that can handle it.

think brompton say 110 kg limmit to the 16" brommies. i did not see a better weight on the G line. i have test ridden one to be honest the price i would keep my 2006 brommie and go for a decent commuter bike. the G was nice to ride but its lost the nippy and feeling of the little brother. im around the 20 stone mark so im lucky that they have not folded up on me lolol

I’ve never ridden a Brompton with 100 psi, (I’m around 75 kgs) mine runs with about 70 psi which seems to suit it on pot holed road and tow paths, rode it over very muddy ground yesterday and it was fine, nice and stable.

mine is running 80 psi, so they don't look flat seem to be my optimal pressure i try to go around pot holes. but Stoney paths seem ok i do get alittle slip sometimes and again think that is more my weight.

I significantly exceed the Brompton weight limit, but that's not what bothers me as I do on many bikes and never broke one yet.

The diddy Bromptons are simply disconcertingly felixible with my weight about, more akin to a cross trainer than a bicycle. Looking down and watching the flame flexing when I pour on the grunt is inefficient and disconcerting. It's not nice.

I wouldn't expect a G line to be too flighty as it's an all-rounder with much lauded - by Brompton - rough stuff capacity, so it's not likely to feel as lithe. In any case, if I want to zip along bike-bike-fast on a folder I've already got arguably the best folder there is with the ID9.

Make sure that these are the correct "16 inch" (349mm) not the other one
