I would never go out in this kind of weather without leg warmers on.
Riding in surrey as I do, I lose count of the number of cyclists (mostly male) with inappropriate clothing.
These are cyclists with decent bikes i am talking about, they mostly have expensive helmets, shoes, glasses etc but always bare legs, sometimes bare arms, rarely overshoes or wind proof gilets.
Please don't tell me some people don't feel the cold, they are potentially doing themselves a damage.
Whats it all about ? Why do they suffer unnecessarily ?
Even on a day like today which was not exactly arctic but not at all warm, they need to protect their muscles and joints.

It was near 10 degrees today in Surrey, and you are complaining about people wearing shorts whilst on their bike?
You should go up to Newcastle in the winter and see what they wear out on a friday night.

You say it like 10 degs is warm, or even mild! Freezing out there for me. Today I wore a long sleeved compression top, two cycling tops and arm warmers, and tracksuit trousers over my padded shorts. Felt fine once I was warmed up but I need it warmer than this to have just the shorts on.

Long sleeved top and arm warmers??? damn you must feel the cold.

On a day like today I would wear 3/4 tights which I could pull up to the knee, a s/s jersey and maybe arm warmers which I would take off after 20mins.

Up north 10 degrees is Caribbean. I went out today in standard bibs but windproof jersey and was comfortable. I do know where you are coming from though, t-shirt without any layers so far this year is pretty risky, I have moved from MTB shoes to road but will continue to equip the overshoes until the weather gets sensible.

It's a generation thing I think. I was out with about sixteen folk of various ages today on a training ride around Ormskirk/Winter Hill. The younger ones had short sleeved tops on and shorts and mittens, the older ones amongst us, me included, had leg warmers or tights on, thermals in my case underneath, full fingered gloves and Under Armour base layers, fleeces and cycle jerseys with a jacket on top! Years ago, I wouldn't have thought anything of going out in a t-shirt in freezing, snowy weather, now I prefer to be comfortable.

On club ride today I had long jersey and 3/4 bottoms. One guy had shorts and short jersey, it was around 9 or 10 degs. I asked if he was cold, he had 2 vests on but said he was fine, would rather err on the side of cold rather than too hot. Said when he sweats too much it slows him down, he's a damn fine rider so I think there may be some truth in it.
It's bordering knee and arm warmers for me as well. Removed gilet today as the wind dropped,

Out at 7 am for just over 3 hours this morning, and it was 3/4 bibs with thermal base layer, windproof long sleeve and lycra overshoes. Lovely and sunny but chilly, but I felt really comfortable.
I passed a few cyclists wearing shorts, can't work it out, that can never be that comfortable. Also what are the implications to exposed knees, I would rather be just a bit more comfortable.
