Oh balls (literally), wife popped the question last night. Feel like a bloody pin cushion as it is with steriod injections. Said I'd get it sorted when this 'hissing' about with my shoulder is sorted. So what's the score - pop to GP, ask about it, go where - local hospital ? (waiting list times) How long does it take, I suppose it's in, out back into work ? Did you book a day off leave ?

Can do without time off the bike - might wait till the end of the season.

I feel sick ! xx(

Oh and the question came up whilst my missus was watching 'My Dad is a Woman' trans gender program. Talk about subtle ?

But I know my time will come....

And in all seriousness to the OP, My old man was fine after having it done, barely affected him at all. seems everyone is slightly different.

Easy to get sorted, had mine done at the local health centre, finished work a couple of hours early. Even invited in some students (medical not just anyone passing) to have a watch!!
Was back on the bike (for short trips) within a few days, and built up gradually, but was lucky and had no problems. Work the next day but I just sit at a desk must of the time.

If your off your bike with a bad shoulder, get it sorted now.

Fossy, I had mine 'done' sometime around early 2007. Popped into the GP with the request and was referred to a private clinic somewhere off the A6 near Stepping Hill (I was a bit vague on that side of Stockport at the time but much better now that I work over there!). Strangely, even though I am a Tameside resident I was referred to a clinic in Stockport :dunno:

The whole thing was very quick and simple, both getting seen and the procedure itself. I even drove up to the pub that night for a car club meeting (and to brag about how 'ard' I must be!). And I was back at work the next day (self-employed driver) but no heavy lifting for a couple of weeks just in case. I did have the foresight to fit a rear step to the back of my van before the op as I had no intention of jumping the 1mtr drop out of the back of the van anytime soon after the 'snip'

Cheers Skolly - not so fancying the 'injection' in the janglies  although compared to shoulder injections it can't be too bad.

I can't remember the injections at all but must have had some? The funniest part was casually chatting to the 2 nurses while the surgeon was messing about with my 'bits'. I remember feeling a bit of tugging when he was tying the stitches in the tubes. I thought if he pulls any harder my arms and legs will start moving around like a puppet!!! Not painful but just conscious of it.

I wouldnt consider cycling for a week or so even if you feel ok because you dont want a build up of hot sweaty bacteria in the region until the wound is totally healed, I didnt listen to this advice and ended up with one infected which then took weeks to heal. Impressively large for a while though ^_^

Barnet,
I had my plumbing turned off in 1991, no problems at all. Local anesthetic, a slight puff of smoke as the surgeon cauterised the tubes, a bit of tugging whilst the stitches were put in 2 each side, and a pretty Irish nurse to talk to through the procedure. Felt sore for a few days, minimal swelling and a slight bit of bruising. Back on the bike after a week. Would advise tight trunks or shorts for a few days to minimise any swinging though.
