Thanks again. aiming to do 100 in one ride by the end of the year.

That's my aim for the end of the year as well.
That and getting myself to the top of Holme Moss

Got my road bike seven weeks ago and my ave speed is between 15-17mph at the mo. My 25 mile run includes 2200 feet of climbing and takes 1 1/2 hours so about on a par with you at that, at least for half your run! On flats I can happily keep up 20-25mph, it's just that there aren't many in West Yorkshire.
Watching the giro and the 45kmh average race speed is plain scary!

All I'm gonna say is wow! I've been cycling for nearly a year and have just got to 12mph average (I'm 33 if it makes any difference (thought not)).

Did my first 50 miler last Sundat and made 4hrs 27 with plenty of stops!

Simon, on a recent Sportive I did, 3.10 for 50miles would have got you in the top 15 out of 80 for that distance (I finished 22nd, but it's not a race apparently). So I would say a pretty good time

Get enough rest. "Horizontal training" is the most important part of adapting to workload.

Ahh I got that almost confused with horizontal jogging..

Im really envious, Ive started cycling again in feb after a 20 year lazy spell and recent operation, the numbers mentioned are what i aspire to. ie 50 miles @ 15mph ave.
Currently 32 miles @ 11.2 mph ave
and 16 miles @ 13mph ave.

I do two different sets of runs, one long twice a month and the usual circuit twice a week.

you all must be so much healthier than me lol

blimey!

i'm a newbie too and have built up to 30 miles, but my 30 mile ride tool me 2h33m (12mph), but that involved about 400ft of climbing around west yorkshire

You have it so easy up there. If I go 30 miles down here I have at least 2500ft to climb. But I love it.........flat is boring.....

Well, I have no option here, hills everywhere.........
and I am not telling my average speed....

I tend to keep pace with the people I'm riding with. Which is fine on a club ride but when I'm on my own my pace drops through the floor as I've got no one to keep up with.

You'll be wanting to do the route of the Leeds International Classic, then? I can't find the circuit online, but if you leave out one of the Holme Moss loops the mileage drops to a trifling 120 miles or so. I keep meaning to do it...
