I'm more interested in my heart rate / power than my speed. I find that long rides are much more enjoyable if I keep the effort in 'zone 2' for as long as possible.
Same here.My 100Km challenge rides are taking over 6 hours, so 9 or 10mph, but I enjoy the scenery.

I have done 100 mile rides in 6 hours in the past (~16.7 mph average speed) but I haven't fully recovered from past illness so I am not sure if I will get that fit (or fitter) again, but it is fun trying!

And this just shows that average speed is meaningless. At the weekend I did a 100km ride at almost 30 km/h / over 18 mph, but I know that Colin's routes would half kill me and would be lucky to do 22 km/h.
It would flatter my ego to let you continue thinking that I did my hilly routes at 27 km/h (16.7 mph), but in truth that was the Manchester 100 route in Cheshire which is much flatter! And this just shows that average speed is meaningless. Round here, my best average was also about 22 km/h, but currently more like 16-18 km/h.
Well, ignoring the hills for 54 years probably isn't helping you get used to them! You're getting up them hills at the same speed I'm getting around flat Cheshire, so well done, I wish I could..........
