I never said he was rubbish, just that I wasn't convinced and it came on the back of a fairly confident outlook of a high finish by him. He lost a lot of time, coupled with few less than intuitive comments about how the race was going when interviewed. So I'll stick to not convinced, tah.
Except when he's hanging off the back, 20 minutes down while his team leader battles away by himself.

Unconvinced as yet and we all know the Giro can be a race for a different kind of rider.

What you claimed was that he was 20 minutes down while his team leader battled away on his own, which fails to take into account that he had buried himself for his leader - he had done the work on an entire team on his own due to the circumstances; he lost a lot of time due to sacrificing his own position. Froome may have learned a lot from him re working for your team leader rather than against!

I don't think Nibali will do the Giro.
He needs to do the TdF to gain lasting greatness! IMHO
Quintana may be the favourite

Hmm, when I posted it I then thought about that aspect.

I am thinking there's a cigarette paper between Nibali and Froome at their best (which Nibbles clearly wasn't in the Vuelta). It would be great to see them up against each other but Nibbles could win the Giro for another few years and still be a legend (at least in Italy).

Will be interesting to see what he goes for.

Not so much limited but I think proper climbers will take a lot of time out of him in the steeper mountains
do you think though if he has a good team around him, in the same way he worked for froome.......that he will climb alot better as he won't be so fatigued

That was addressed to Jowwy's post, it was a kind of a question. You seem a bit literal though. I made no reference to why he was 20 minutes back and I remain unconvinced.

Hmm, to be honest I just don't think he's a GT winner. I think pure climbers like Rodriguez, Uran, Quintana will be too strong though you make a good point about the ITT

i havent really looked at the parcour yet - so not sure at which stage the ITT comes in, but i do hope that he is given a really strong team and all the backing, that i personally think he deserves.

Looking at the posts above i do remember on the stage in question that vasel kiryanka who was the supposed power house of the team got DQ'd for not finishing within the time allocated

Rodriguez I think is a really good bet - surely Quintana is the Movistar Tour leader

You think?
I thought ValvPiti was going to be TdF leader and Quintana for the Giro but I'm not sure
I did see that story too but I find it a bit odd as Quintana is their best GC rider - it would make sense if Movistar had essentially decided not to go for the Tour but that they really want Quintana to win one of the Giro or the Vuelta for GC winning experience.
I guess Quintana would be the fav for the Giro if he does do it

Porte was dropped early on stage 9 when Garmin went batshit mental on the first climb. Porte was fubared from his efforts of the day before. If he wants to win a GT then he cannot afford a Jour sans. I am looking forward to the Giro and hope he does well, but if Quintana or Nibali ride it they will be too good for him.

your correct he did get dropped pretty quickly - but did fight back later in the stage and try and close the gap. Hopefully if he gets the right type of support he will do well. Don't think his NIBS is doing the giro this year, thought he was doing the tdf, but time will tell i suppose.
