Leading team sky for the giro - what do you think his chances are

big fan of richie and the way he rides, hope he gets the right team to help him as he deserves for the way he domestiques for other leaders.

One of my favourite riders @Mr Haematocrit the way he sits and climbs and turns on the power to shell riders out the back of the peleton is phenomenal

Except when he's hanging off the back, 20 minutes down while his team leader battles away by himself.

Unconvinced as yet and we all know the Giro can be a race for a different kind of rider.

was a pretty tough stage that one if i remember and a day after another tough stage.

True but that's the point. He needs to sling them together. One bad day......In his defence, Movistar did put the hammer down to get rid of him.

Yeh they did - but he did try and battle back in that stage if i remember correctly and showed some steally grit....even though he did lose a massive chunk of time

Err, I think you'll find that the stage where he lost all the time was due to him being the only Sky rider in a position to ride for Froome; rather than it being because he was rubbish, it was because he had buried himself for his team leader. If he's the leader in the Giro others will hopefully be burying themselves for him.

I never said he was rubbish, just that I wasn't convinced and it came on the back of a fairly confident outlook of a high finish by him. He lost a lot of time, coupled with few less than intuitive comments about how the race was going when interviewed. So I'll stick to not convinced, tah.

Porte has some form in the Giro - 7'th as a neo-pro I think. So he if he can find good consistency then I think he could be there or thereabouts with decent team support.
The reality is a lot depends on who he's up against. Nibali won't be there, Uran Uran may well do the Tour for a change, Cadel Evans will do the Giro but I fancy Porte over Evans, likewise Basso.
As rich says, if Quintana does the Giro, he'll be really tough to beat.
