Oi, I heard that, I'm gonna track you down, cut off you ears, suck out your eyes, chop off your arms, kick you up the jacksy, fashion your hair into a mullet, nick your wallet, shag your missus, sell your children, burn your house, bankrupt your parents, get you sacked, steal your pension, tie you to a bike and push you down a big hill, run you over in my 4x4, flog your clothes and possessions on eBay, melt down your bikes for scrap, hack your CycleChat account and post offensively to everyone on here. Bloody well accuse me of being one for retaliation!! ;):sad:

Something tells me that your not completely happy?(blackadder quote)

...just curious as to what makes some need to react in a way to cause annoyance or fear?
My guess would be that they themselves have just been annoyed and/or frightened. There seems to be little place in today's society to resolve these emotions in a constructive manner.

I think today's pace of life, and its ceaseless demands on us, means we often get frightened and/or annoyed.

Then as Landslide says there is no outlet for these emotions.

I also think people can be frightened very easily, when something happens that they don't expect.

It just seems a little premeditated when we have a thread for "good ideas"to say to or do to people?

Probably a mixture of premeditation and l'esprit d'escalier.

Also, if an incident should occur (many would argue "when" rather than "if"), as I noted above people feel they have little option but to retaliate (at whatever level).

I had an off yesterday. White Transit was behind me on a country lane. I moved into the side but as it was raining heavily I didn't see the pothole which dismounted me onto the road. Lucky for me the van had just passed me or I might have been under the wheels. At the time I was raging and chased after it thinking if he pulls into one of the farms nearby I would punch him. In retrospect it wasn't his fault at all but mine and maybe the roads department. The type of posts Col is referring to tend to add to the sense of injustice which we feel as cyclists and I for one am glad that I didn't get the chance to retaliate.

It seems an innocent person was close to a problem, lucky you didnt catch up eh?

I think most of us have done or said things we regret, just very lucky it was a thought you regret and not an action.

We don't really know what you were talking about Col. What is the thread you mention?

Cheers

I see your point, sorry i was a bit vague there,i meant where we are giving tips on what i would or you would do,to get back at someone, its a general thing, advice sometimes is in joke form, but others are more real things to say or do on purpose.

No,dont misunderstand,it was meant as a blanket opinion,im not directing at anyone in particular. If i was i would ask joe bloggs why they do it?Its just a general query, hoping to get more a good idea why its done from more people.

I give out far more waves of thanks and smiles than wagging fingers. (I've found wagging fingers are way better than the finger, or the coffee fist).

I like to think that other drivers see me acknowledging good driving and adjust their behaviour to me accordingly. Probably just a Zen bubble though.

Im all for this sort of action, and i agree,it does seem to get good reactions from others doesnt it,if you do give the fingers or something else to retaliate, you dont know who your doing it to,and why they acted in the way they did in the first place to get you to react.I had a taxi pull out of a junction in front of me two nights ago,i could of give him a bit of grief, but i stopped and waved him out with a smile,he did the same and let me go first, and it was an apolagetic smile and mouthing sorry ,but it could have quite easily been very negative if i had took issue with him not seeing me till nearly too late.Iv learned to accept the mistakes and unatentive driving of others will happen sometimes, and its not worth it to possibly make things spiral, lifes too short.
