Im not having a go at the usual suspects, this is a real interest, but why do some feel the need to retaliate with words or action to any mistake, ignorant maneouver,it just seems that it regularly rears itself with the "i would do this " or that?to get back at them or wind them up.Im just wondering why some feel the need to do this?

I suspect you are not having a go because you know from experience that the usual suspect is a lost cause, however, there is a stream of new people coming along without your knowledge and experience who do not realise that he is the usual suspect, and in their ignorance hope they clarify certain issues...they soon learn.

I don't - I had someone stop their car and threaten to beat me up convinced that I'd sworn at them (I actually said "Thank you", because the guy had waited in a side road for me to pass).

I try to do the whole "zen bubble" thing personally - the most i do these days is a "move over" gesture if a pass was a little close, a thank you wave in appreciation of considerate driving, and the usual signals indicating my intentions at junctions etc.

What is that one? Two fingers shoved in the air?

A movement with the hand held sideways, thumb upwards, hand open, left to right, as though I was shoring up a stack of troublesome books, or similar.

Even that is too much for some poor motorists - the day of my off, I was riding home and got passed stupidly close (traffic islands creating a pinch point in the road) by a white skoda - did the "move over", and got the finger in response.

It's the 'new' British psyche col....you see it everywhere.
I dont know how it started, dont know when it began, but there is a pervading attitude that you can inflict your opinion on anyone and everyone.
The days of accepting everyone is less than perfect, shrugging your shoulders and moving on...are very sadly, gone.
Worse still, the inflicter of their opinions dont generally have the guts to say it to your face. It's always done via places like this, or in letters to papers, via pressure groups, or occasionally by some anonymous motorist who you never saw before, and will never see again. You dont generally meet people with such strong opinions....cos they do it by the back door. The sad thing is...the people with power actually listen to them .

It didnt used to be this way...and i cant say it makes the world a better place.

Meh, I shrugged my shoulders and got on with enjoying my ride whilst trying not to open up the scabs on my road rash  Caught up with him at the lights, (it's only 200 to 300 metres further on, another thing that makes a close pass there a bit annoying) and he had one of those "Oh f*ck, is that lad going to say/do something" looks on him, which was payback of a sort.

Oi, I heard that, I'm gonna track you down, cut off you ears, suck out your eyes, chop off your arms, kick you up the jacksy, fashion your hair into a mullet, nick your wallet, shag your missus, sell your children, burn your house, bankrupt your parents, get you sacked, steal your pension, tie you to a bike and push you down a big hill, run you over in my 4x4, flog your clothes and possessions on eBay, melt down your bikes for scrap, hack your CycleChat account and post offensively to everyone on here. Bloody well accuse me of being one for retaliation!! ;)!
