Count the teeth on your chainrings, to check they are as specified and that Halfords haven't somehow installed a chainring set with biggest ring at 46 and smallest ring on cassette at 40 (!)

Thank you very much for your advice. I don't think I'm anywhere near getting a pro contact.
Iv hit 47mph downhill (according to strava)
Most of my friends can hit 50+ going down this hill and it looks like they're not peddling flat out, where as I look like an idiot trying to keep up. I can take them on flats pretty easy but just wondering why the bike won't perform as well on this decent
Technique/experience has a lot to do with it. FWIW the fastest Ive been this year was on a borrowed cyclocross low (48x11 gears).

The 52 tooth chainring connected to the 12 tooth gear on the cassette equals 113.9 gear inches, and if you can pedal that ratio easily you must have thighs like tree trunks.

I don't think we're getting the full picture here. 52/12 is good enough for all kinds of riders, up to and including the pro peloton. But somehow, the OP is routinely spinning it out. There comes a point on most downhills when it is better just to stop pedalling and tuck in. Either way, something's not right...

Hell no ! Ha ha
I think everyone is a little bewildered as to why I'm spinning out. Most of the time this is on a decent and I get pissed off that I'm wasting energy peddling like f#*k when I'm not getting any resistance at all. I think the best thing is to do, is to see if I can try my friends bike to see if I have the same problem. And then check his gear ratio. It's gonna cost me £40 to change my rings, so that will be considered if need be ☺

It's easy bigger numbers at the front and smaller at the back make you go fast, it is worth checking the chain ring to see if you do have the correct size on as you never know.

To be honest if you're spinning out on the flat I'm astonished, I don't think I've met anyone who achieves that on regular basis. On the descents you've already said you're hitting 45mph so what's the problem?

Last week I descended a local hill at 43mph, I can't say I was surprised to have spun out.

TBH I think something is wrong here.
