Has the definition of "troll" changed over the last couple of years or something? I thought it meant someone who winds people up and is deliberately obnoxious to the point of severe annoyance and tedium.

What's the user name got to do with it?

A troll is someone who posts controversial topics with the intention of getting an emotional and angry response. This dude is just looking to get some help from people, give him a break

You can all stop answering this thread.
The guy hasnt logged on since he made the entry - so whoever the person is, he dont really give a shoot.

Will drug taking kill the sport of cycling?
No it won't
Who cares what the 'general public' thinks?
No one
Those who love cycle sport are a precious minority and let it remain so.

I have cookies switched off by default, and I don't log in until I see something to reply to. So he/she could still be reading.

Ah cheers for the people who gave a genuine answer to my questions.
First of all people calling me a troll, your way off the mark there. Its a 6th form project for a lesson I have once a week, and considering its just been half-term, voila here I am second lesson round logging in. L_I_R actually stands for Life Is Random, saying I have had for a while now. The question was posted so that I could an in sight into cyclists eyes, as its your sport thats suffering the damage from the scandals.
In response to the people who actually posted relevant info thanks, the aim is for me to write an essay on how cycling is percieved not only by cyclists such as yourselves, and the public, (i do have this same topic posted on other forum sites for your information) considering the fact so many doping scandals have happened recently.
I know it was mentioned earlier but considering the fact that cycling is at the worlds forefront in terms of how serious it takes doping, can this not be seen as a positive that its so determined to rid the sport of the cheats. it could quite easily just have given up with trying to worm out the cheats decades ago considering all the trouble, yet it still continues on.
Its also mentioned that maybe i should change the sport I'm looking into, however I'm trying to see the deeper side and see if anyone actually believes that cycling will become a clean sport again.

Apologies from me bud.. ( I knew you was kosher ;) )

Anyways.. we DO care about how clean our sport is.. I am not so bothered as to what the general populace thinks tho' since the VAST majority can only get their heads around football and 90 minute attention span.

I certainly think rightly or wrongly that cycling is as clean as any other sport on this planet - it should not be singled out.

I certainly dont think it is suffering either.

So you are starting from the position that it was clean? You need to do a bit more research....

Well LIR, like I said, I know nothing about doping, but I guess we both learned that some people are a bit touchy about the subject.

Good luck with the project.

Hopefully LIR will also learn that there is much more to 'research' than popping along into a forum and asking a question then buggering off. Research involves processes. Maybe that could be a topic you address in your findings re people's perception of your approach and what you have learned?

Could I very gently suggest that you may be being a bit unfair? From the way I read the posts, he/she is probably an enterprising 16/17 year old seeking a sample opinion, that's all. For God's sake, this isn't the Climate Change thread... lighten up.
