Hi all' Can anybody recommend some replacement pedals for the one that came with my Spesh Hardrock which are frankly awful. Comfty when dry, they become a slippy nightmare whenever they are wet. I dont want anything that fixes my foot to the pedal in any way. I ride mostly in lightweight walking boots . I have seen some with what look like little screws sticking out, but I am not sure which one would be any good. Any ideas?

I have never found a solution to slippery flat pedals (other than going clipless). The problem is that hard soles such as on walking boots simply don't grip a wet flat pedal. If you use pedals with sharp studs, they will shred your boot soles (and you if you catch your shin on them). Soft soled ordinary sohoes grip ok, but riding in them is inefficient and uncomfortable.

Unless there is a really good reason for cycling in walking boots, then going clipless is the only way. It may sound terrifying, but you would very soon become accustomed to them and you would never go back to flats.

The only disadvantage to clip-in (also known as clipless) pedals are that once you get used to them you won't want to ride with flat ones again.
i use shimano M647 (also known as 'DX') for mtb and speedplay zero for road.

if you are adamant you don't want clipless though go for DMR V8 or V12. My mate uses them, but his shins are tattooed to buggery by them.

Use toe clips.

If (like me) you don't like clip in pedals then toe clips will keep your feet in the right position perfectly well and allow you to pull the pedal upwards when needed. Normal size pedals clips and straps will adjust to lightweight boots but not to full walking boots.

I've used DMR V8 pedals in the past and they're great...wouldn't recommend the painted ones though as my white ones got chipped VERY easily. Extremely grippy in the wet and dry though. Next best thing to spuds/toeclips.

Shimano make an SPD winter boot that's very comfortable, warm and almost waterproof. It's OK for walking in as well.
