Hi,

I currently have a FSA Gossamer 50/34T 110mm on the bike but looking to replace it for something better (current one creaks etc and prob due a new one).

Having never done this type of maintenance before some advice on what needs considering before hand would be great.

In terms of the new crankset is the 50/34T 110mm the only thing I need to make sure is the same on the new crankset for instance?

Many thanks in advance.

It won't be the crankset that's creaking but the BB. What sort do you have? Likely a press fit. If you're unsure post a pic and a link to the exact model of bike.

It's the interface with the BB that's critical. The chain rings and BCD (110mm) are just 'noise' but assume you'd want the same length cranks (170/172.5/175). But as @Cycleops says, this is a BB issue, not a chainset issue, so be very clear which one you need.

i had an FSA gossamer and changed it for a tiagra crankset. i think i had to change the BB to a shimano one at the same time (damn memory)
anyway, the main reason i was changing was to get a shorter crank (170)
it's worth considering unless you are happy with the length currently

Check all the fasteners between the 2 rings are tight, solved my creak :okay:

Pulled everything apart at the weekend barring the BB and greased & torqued. Same issue with the click/creak so going to replace the BB

I currently have:
FSA BB-6000 Gossamer Mega Exo BB

however looking at some reviews online it gets a bit of a bad rep so any advice on a decent alternative?

Hi

Yes researched and found the Shimano SM-BBR60 Ultegra BB which looks to be a like for like alternative that gets good reviews.

Been searching for removal tools and the vast array that is available with various different numbers is mind boggling.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the tool to remove the old bracket and the tool (if different) to install the new bracket ?

Looking for the socket type rather than the wrench type if possible.

I'm 98% sure the gassimer you linked is same fitting as Shimnao hollowtech BB's so you need

Park Tool Bottom Bracket Tool BBT-9 or equivalent take your pick (or BB tool)

Have you already got the crank remover tool? if not you'll need one, again they vary....... i had to google which one of mine to use the other day:laugh:

Hi,

thanks for the time you have taken to dig out these links, very kind of you.

I have the cranks off already, ordered the BB & tool to arrive tomorrow.

Spoke to a REP at the company who confirmed the ultegra will be a like for like swap with the FSA BB.

Fingers crossed but again thank you to all of you for the replies
