I managed to strip the thread holding my old FD2303 onto my Defy 3.The LBS says Shimano have stopped making this model and they have sold me the FD2403,

When I try and get this to work on the bike I am having great difficulty setting the position. Following the instructions; in order the clear the outer ring as required the inner part of the cage rubs on the teeth of the middle ring. My thoughts are that the cage is not wide enough for the triple set up.

Is this the correct replacement part? do I need to set it much higher than 1mm above the outer cog to get it to clear the mid cog teeth

Have you tried setting it a little higher? How much higher does it need? What is the difference in teeth between middle and outer?
Have you spoken to your LBS for further advice?

So many variables..

Although the user guide of the new Claris FD-2403 doesn't appear to have come out yet, they appear to be designed to cater for 50/39/30 triple chainset and 45mm chainline from the same group, which I would have thought is the same as the 2303 and the same as the Defy 3 Triple? I would be surprised if the inner cage clash with the 39T if the cage outer clears the large ring by 2mm when it traverse over it.

Triples are fairly easy to set up now. Mine (6703) came with a plastic shim. Install it, set it in line, insert cable tightly, remove shim, micro adjust with downtube barrel adjuster or in-line adjusters.

Thanks for replies, I finally got this to work although there is still some rubbing in the middle ring when using the extreme gears ie 1 and 8.
I had to lift the derailleur about 3mm higher than the large ring and then pull the cable very tight with pliars to ensure that it held its position. There is very limited clearance when it sits over the large and middle rings.
Anyway its working and hopefully it will bed in.
The plasstic shim it came with...was removed early on as I thought it was working. Next time I will look closer at how this fitted in in case I have to re-fit it.
Thanks again for the advice
