Good point, I need to keep an eye on mine; I can use my ID card in Europe, but I need my UK passport for entering the country.

In practice, this means that I travel to any non-EU country with my British passport.

I also don't understand why my new passport is black. I thought they were supposed to be Blue (no political debate encouraged)?

Its a very very very very dark blue apparently.

when the whole "return of blue passports" was being heralded as a marvellous thing for life in general, my firth thought was "weren't they black" but apparently not, just a very dark blue that appears black to most people.

I got mine at the weekend, about 3 weeks after applying. Its a very dark blue...darker blue than a dark blue thing as Baldrick might say.
Hasn't altered my view on the B-word though.
