I just managed to cross-thread either my new stem or the bolt (more likely the stem I guess) when adjusting it.

The top bolt that secures the rear of the stem just turns, it doesn't get tighter or looser, it just turned. I've tried pulling it out with a pair of pliers but had no luck. I've tried pushing the bolt through from the other side. No joy.

Ah crud

Pull and turn anti clockwise at the same time..borrow an extra pair of hands

If you've stripped the thread in the stem, why not simply drill out the stripped thread and replace with a stainless nut and bolt - it'll do the same job. Pick a socket head domed bolt and a nyloc nut and it'll be fine. I think Modelfixings.co.uk will have these in 5 or 6mm.

Sounds like a new stem but me being a engineer and generally having my hands covered in grease most of the time I could salvage some boys and bobs from it!
Cheers Ed

Do you want me to have a look at it? Being a cnc machinest I can reclaim a lot of stuff that others would throw away.

Wow, just wow! I'm guessing if you were dead clever you could drill it out and thread-tap it?

Nutsert, but you will need to go to a car garage, good bike shop or engineering firm. In basic terms they drill out the old thread, re-tap slightly larger and screw in a new steel thread which looks like a tiny coil spring. These are much stronger than the original thread so suggest you get both done at same time. I used to have a kit from my time as a mechanic but lost it when I moved house.
