I rode a Gilera Runner 125 for approx. 5 years running up 20,000 miles

Apart from a puncture it never let me down, although I had it serviced regularly - the parts are expensive if required, especially the exhaust

If I ever went back to scooter-commuting again I'd buy another one.
But make sure you get some decent wet/cold weather gear !

How do the Peugeot 4 strokes stand up to the competition ?

My son has a Speedfight 100, 2 stroke of course, but bearing in mind its 12 years old, it runs fine, the only issue he's had has been a battery charging problem, which will almost certainly be the stator...one day I will sort it, but reliable it is. Id imagine a 4 stroke Peugeot would be even more reliable.

I've got this a few months ago as a project....Aprillia 125 Mojito Habana 4 stroke. It won't be a 4 stroke when I finish with it, and it won't be a 125 either..

I have got a Honda Innova 125cc and it is great. It does 100kph and 55kpl.
I have ridden 8000km on it this year and it has not put a foot wrong.

My 750 cc Moto Guzzi Breva is getting jealous.
Thanks. I've ridden a runner and liked it, but it's pretty attractive to thieves. I'd happily ride something ugly if it means I'm more likely to keep it.
Forgot to mention, buy a BIG lock  fortuneatly I was able to garage mine !

They are a good looking scooter, and fast ^_^

I have a Honda S-Wing, it is very reliable, a wind shield which keeps a lot of the rain off, 110 miles a gallon, top speed around 65-70, but cruises easily at 50, very comfortable and manoeuvrable, perfect for commuting distances where it is too far for the cycle.

Don't you find a lot of cars overtaking though ?

As I ride in and around London it is perfect for keeping up with and very often overtaking four wheeled vehicles. Maybe if you needed to ride on A roads or motorways for longish distances then a bigger engine might be needed.

As soon as the traffic gets up above 50mph, they all want to get past..I had this issue with an old 250 years ago

I disagree with the "expensive" comment regarding Vespas and LML's, what about residual values? They are rock solid, buy right and they might even make you money. Factor in the availability of very cheap, easily sourced spares, their simplistic build and I don't believe there is a "cheaper" scooter to own and run.

I have had a 2003 Yamaha Majesty 125, I don't like using my Vespa in rain, it was excellent but any spares cost a fortune, Yam disc £40, Vespa pads, £5, Yam exhaust £160, Vespa £40 and so on. Plus, I 'd have paid good money just to make the shame I felt riding it go away.

Personally, would not be seen dead on anything but steel bodied scoot ever again.

I owned a Yamaha Majesty YP250 for a while, I hated it looks but it was surprisingly fast and stable, holding 70mph+ on motorways no problem.

So your scooter was so cheap to run you need to buy a whole new scooter in order to ride a scooter in the rain?

Hmm, I see a flaw in your logic there.

Was,......... I realised the silliness, so I sold the Yamaha. I now have an LML so I don't have to use the Vespa in the rain. I look at the Vespa more than ride it and am working on MrsF letting me construct a pedestal in the dining room.

The old skool scooters are objet d'art. They are more form over function. I'd never want oneas a daily ride...too much hassle. I'd not say no to a GS160 though as it has beautiful lines
My PX didn't miss a beat, but all in all a Honda is a cheaper option. I don't care what it looks like.
How much is the Honda and how much will it be worth in 3/5 years?
