My older brother was asking about this one. Apparently he's decided, after about 35 years, to try cycling again, mainly to escort his 2 young kids around the block on their bikes. He was considering the following bike:

He's not planning to ride it far, just around a town with a population of a few hundred people, so I guess saddle shape and general ergonomics won't be huge issues. I was just wondering if any of you had seen this bike, and what you thought of it?

Regards,

--- Victor.

Be good with an electric wheel kit on it.... In pink?

Actually, I got that wrong, didn't I? Just Googled it and it's Zimmer frame, named after a British company. Anyway, hopefully someone else will notice this thread, who's familiar with these particular bikes. My brother thinks I'm an expert on bicycles, but that's far from the truth!

Not familiar with that particular brand but I had a very similar bike in the States.

Tough, easy to maintain and good fun to ride (provided you're not looking to break any world records).

They seem to be favourably reviewed online, and that looks quite a bargain. For the kind of riding he's looking to do I'd say it's ideal.

Their top end road bike with full 105 and a carbon fork is a rather excellent deal as well.

As long as he doesn't encounter any hills should be fine. I was surprised at the quoted weight of 12kg, I would have expected it to be at least fifty percent more, but if that is correct it puts it on a par with a standard road bike. Cheap too.

Thanks for the replies, people . Yes I agree, @Cycleops, given the look of the bike, I also expected it to weigh over 15kg, and given its weight, the price is surprisingly low.

Oh yes, forgot to mention: he also said he wants to install a '70s style banana-shaped seat . That could be a bit tricky, though, thanks to a bit of nanny-state interference in Australia a while back:
