red cabbage

Whilst baking some potatoes in the oven, sweat it off in butter with a little garlic and spring onion. When the potatoes are nice and crispy on the outside, cut them in half and mash, add the cabbage mixture into the potato and mix well. Spoon back into the potato skins sprinkle over a little cheese and back in the oven for 15 mins - mmmm tasty! Think I'll make that tonight.

I think I'd make Borsch

1 medium chopped onion and fry it in vegetable oil in a large pan.
Then add (a tin of) chopped tomatoes and fry it for another 3-4 minutes

In the meanwhile prepare the vegetables

2 - 3 medium beetroot chopped
3 – 4 medium carrots chopped
Half a head of red cabbage sliced

Add everything into the pan and fry for another 5-6 minutes until softened.

Then add the water to cover the vegetables

Vegetables will cook at medium heat and halfway to readiness (you would really need to use your imagination here for "half-way") add some more water and (a tin of) Red Kidney beans (or any beans, no need to drain them) and 4-5 chopped potatoes, a handful of flat leaf parsley and also fresh or dried dill leaves.

Add more water to make it thinner if you like; I like mine so you can pile it up in the bowl. Add salt and pepper at the end to taste and serve with bread and crème fraîche.

so - this is what I did......

a tiny amount of oil in the bottom of a non-stick saucepan. Heat. Add finely chopped red cabbage and stir rapidly. Add Ikea Glogg. Stir, continue adding Glogg, stir, keep heat high, cover, keep adding little splashes of Glogg, stir at one minute intervals, keep going until red cabbage just begins to turn tender, add cooked lentils, stir, drain (there should be very little liquid) season and serve.

My regret is not adding a splash of creme fraiche on the top. Otherwise brilliant.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
I'd recommend the slow-cooked version. The Bavarians serve this with roast duck and bread dumplings, and very nice it is too. Add cream for extra gemuetlichkeit.
