On pleasure rides in the country, the recumbent would be my choice. Your view really opens up, and you see the sky, trees, etc. There are many advantages and disadvantages to both recumbents and "safety bikes." I use my safety bike for commuting, but for a long pleasure ride, I'll take the recumbent every time.
