I see so many posts of people setting targets and things.
Am I the only one that doesn't? I ride 3 different bikes (single speed for committing, TT for short sub 20 mile blasts and then a hybrid for longer rides) and don't keep track of how many miles I do on each bike.
I like to improve my average speeds (not on the commute) and check how far I've been each time, but don't make a note of them at all.

Do others all record everything?

I'd like to, but im a bit of a mobile phone hater so don't record all of mine by a long chalk.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
No. I don't bother. For me it's not important. Im just a social cyclists and I don't care how far or not I cycle.

I use Cycledroid on my smartphone..... not so as to record stats to upload....like Strava etc. but to keep tabs on my personal progress and also to track my rides for future use for routes for the "Wheelers"
I'm not a competitive sort like some... so Strava etc. does nowt for me....

I used to be in denial, and then I got totally sucked in to the whole Strava thing… its addictive, even for a 40s man that weighs a century, I find that if there's a hill where I'm in the top 20% I'm well chuffed. Sad I know, especially when I'll wait until there's a gale blowing in the right direction and then try particular segments!

Did I mention how pathetic I am also? But, you know what… I don't care, its a laugh and I like it so the haters can sling their hooks. I like a pie, I like my Raleigh Randonneur touring bike and I like getting in the top 25% of anything. The nay-sayers can ram it!

Talking of recording rides reminds me that a while ago I experimented with using forms on Google spreadsheets. As far as I know, anyone who has google drive can access this (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...lKN19OQzNDNURIMGIwdWNVdnc&usp=drive_web#gid=0), copy it and make a copy for themselves. It'll record your rides and average speeds as you go along. To get to the form where you enter the details via Form (in the menu) and then go to live form. The record and average appears on the responses form.

If anyone thinks they might be interested in giving it a try, feel free. And if you have any problems, PM me, and I'll see whether I can sort it out.

(For the record, I do record my rides and average speeds but don't bother for the shopping runs.)

I've recorded every single ride except for when my Garmin was broken. I am not obsessed by any means of beating a segment, or getting 0.1mph faster, but I just find it interesting to know how I am doing and how far I have ridden in total.

I am not to bothered about the stats on strava ect, I only get the odd p.b. these days, but I do keep my own data base which actually blows strava away in terms of stats, but at the end of the day, I am only really concerned with my distance and cadence, than my avg sp then how high, and how difficult the ride was (yea it works that out too, to some degree), I won't get on to the weather data, but you get the idea.

I don't record commutes, but if I'm out on a weekend or evening I will.
I upload to Garmin and Map my ride asI'm friends with my two brothers (I'm their brother too....) so we all get to see what the other has been up to.
I recently joined map my ride and it's quite interesting to see "7th place in Kom" etc. I can see how people get hooked!

I've got my garmin and I like to see where I've been. It's nice to get a PB on a regular ride but not devastating if I don't. Garmin is handy when I get lost from time to time.
I take my garmin most of the time but when I can't find where I last had it, I don't get wildly excited about it. It's just nice to know how far I've been and how many calories I've burned as I'm trying to shift some timber. If I burn enough calories, I can have a bun

I enjoy Strava, but I won't have any worries if I am not in the top 30 or so. I mostly like to keep track of distance and terrain. I am not really all that competition oriented, at least this time of year. I mostly prefer distance events, so I need to improve overall speed in the spring.

I can see there are advantages when you can compare against friends and family etc.
Next year I might just give it a go and see.
Thanks for all the responses
