A friend is looking to buy a bike, new or secondhand, and is looking for a hybrid for good town and country track use.
He has asked me to help him find something suitable so I thought I would ask for some advice first.

So to avoid a 'not fit for purpose' contraption that has two wheels and alludes to human power what should I look for and look out for in helping him find a suitable bike?
Any good brands that will be within his £200 budget?

Thank you.

all good cheap bikes, my cheap bike is a viking I can't speak for all of them I can only speak as I find mine has been very solid and reliable something like this http://www.parkersof...ybrid-bike.aspx ignore the web price thing they are always sold with that sort of discount whever you buy them (just noticed that's a steel frame so it will be quite heavy)

Cheers, I will pass those recommendations on.

Personally I would be tempted with second hand but it would have to be fairly well looked after to save me spending too much time fixing it for him.

I used to have a claude butler urban 300 and loved it apart from I felt the front suspension was unescacary, Personally If I had 200 quid to spend I would get an urban 200

+1 for the Claud, I have the urban 100, it's simple and well made. I use mine regularly for commuting and blatting about on the canal bank. Apart from one puncture, nothings has gone wrong, and it still looks as good as new (When I clean it anyway).
