So I've had my road bike since August and put in quite a few miles.

I was thinking about booking in a service (you're usually recommended to do one at 6 months right?)

I got the bike in Evans and was a bit unimpressed with their free 6-week service. I'm not sure they actually did anything. They didn't even inflate the tires. :headshake:

I know there are quite a few Londoners on here, so was wondering if anyone had recommendations on where to get a good quality service.

Happy to travel for one but I do live in Balham, so preference to south of the river and SW post codes.

Cheers.

Hello DDE.

Another Balhamite here.

I got my Cannondale Hybrid from Cyclopolis on Balham High Road.

Took it for the 6 week service and they tweaked bits and bobs, but don't think there was much needing doing.

I took it for a 6 month service and in my somewhat inexperienced opinion, they did a good job.

They advised on new pedals (to replace the ones that came with the bike) and suggested an upgrade on the front brake...came out in total at well over £100, but I was happy with the standard of work that they did.

I've dropped in a few times for ad hoc advice and they've been helpful.

So, Cyclopolis are good (IMO), but remember my opinion isn't one of an expert

The guy in Crazy Horse nr Tooting Bec seems to get some bad press on the internet, though I popped in once and he was pretty helpful - lots of signs up saying 'don't do this/we can't to that/refrain from x' which can be a wee bit off-putting!

Well over £100 for a bike service!

Get a train to Sheffield, go to A.E. Butterworth and have a lovely homemade pie and a pint at The Broadfield over the road while you waitand I bet you'll still be up on the deal

When I hopefully go self employed, not to travel to Sheffield for a bike service as I'd forego £350 a day ;) assuming it can all be done in a day. Holidays will need to be relaxing and enjoyable, somewhere interesting with good weather ;)

Yeah: Sheffield is only 2 hours on the train - my OH used to spend that long just getting to work in London when we lived in Cheam. You don't need injections, a passport or anything like that. I quite regularly go to London, do a days work and travel back in the same day. It's really not very far

I'd rather get it done locally and save the hassle ... It's still a day trip. Shefield isn't 2 hours by train from Cheam ;) I'm also assuming your bike shop charges for servicing a bike, even if it is a bit less

Quite true - Cheam is about 15 years from London as I recall

I wouldn't judge Evans based on their ability to do a 6 week service- from what I'm lead to believe this is just to make sure the cables are suitably taught and the headset suitably tight after a bit of bedding in, I wouldn't expect any more than that. Tyre pressure tends to be left to the customer unless you've specifically requested the check it.
I'm not saying Evans are good BTW- just that they may not be all bad.

If you do want Pearsons to do its a minimum week wait for a service at the mo, increasing to 2 weeks in summer proper!
