I have been using Altura progel mitts which I've always been happy with. However, I have developed tendonitis in my wrist (base of thumb) and the specialist suggested finding more padding to protect the area. I'll look into extra padding for the bars, but can anyone recommend me some top notch gel mitts, with excellent protection around the thumb base?

I quite like Gore stuff generally but there are a few choices. I had some Specialized ones but didn't like them (weird bobbly bits inside which got really uncomfortable if hands were sweaty)

Need to be easy to get on and off as basically it really hurts if the the thumb is pulled wrong!

Price wise, up to £40 I guess, need to be available in a store for trying on. Probably men's ones as I have rather large hands for WSD gloves

Cheers

I recently bought some Giro Tessa gloves and they're extremely comfortable, much more so than the Altura ones they've replaced. Blokey in the LBS wears the men's version and rates them as well. Can't comment on how easy they'll be for you to pull on and off but they've got velcro opening/closure so you can pretty much move the whole glove away from the pad of the thumb before removing it from your fingers.

Normally I spend a lot of dosh on cycling kit, but these are cheap and cheerful. They also come with really generous foam padding, and nifty loops for really easy removal. So cheap that if they don't work for you you can bin them.

Personally, I think their padding superior to any gel mitt i have tried so far.

Just got these at 80% off, £7.95 + postage, best gloves I have bought so far, have a look at the Scott sale, there are loads mor there

Well I did, I have bought Specialized gel mitts as they seemed to have the best padding in the right area of the options at Evans

I have looked at the Phat tape too - however, it only comes in black and there are some compromises this girl will not make and black tape is one of them. I am looking into the Fizik gel under tape option and Fizik make lots of lovely colours :girldance:

I have that exact tape in WHITE :becool: on my bike (it came with the bike i might add) its comfy and the comfiest tape i have owned to date but not as comfy as the Bar Phat but then im not scared of Black things so i can accept the compromise of the lack of color .

Well im assuming as mine is White the previous owner didnt buy the kit you posted above. So i guess he just bought the pads then changed the tape as and when. Your right initial cost would be £30 odd which is a bit steep. It is comfy though i can vouch for that.
