this.

I have two, and for the money they are great.

This looks like the same one jpembroke linked to on CRC only £50 less. I've decided to take a look (with acknowledgement to all the happy Revolution owners out there). Practically all the CRC reviewers rave about it, and at the price Ribble are offering I reckon it must be worth a look.

Hopefully it'll arrive by the weekend. I'll report back if anyone's interested?

Archie,

I've got the Spin Doctor which broke on you. Mine is OK after a year. What bit broke - was it the lever on the clamp?
Yeah, it was the cam lever which closes the clamp. It's plastic with a metal pin which goes through the bolt that adjusts the width of the jaw closure. I was clamping a bike frame at an angle to replace the rear wheel and the pin let go. After finding all the bits I managed to re-insert the pin and finish the job, but the hole on one side had worn and the pin had deformed (expanded) on that side. It was clearly a temporary repair so back it went.

I reckon it was fine with clamping the top tube, but any rotational force, which you'd get using the seat post for example, put enough pressure on to wear that part.

I can testify that the decathlon ones for £30 where the bottom bracket shell rests on a shaft and a strap goes round the downtube are absolutely shoot. The bike won't stay still while you're working on it.

Yes please. It was my birthday this week and Mrs-LC was asking me what I wanted. Didn't know, of course, other than the usual high-price exotica!!

She said, "what about a workstand?" but I wasn't sure what to get. That looks promising so I'd be very interested to hear how you get on.

Got the EBC one before Xmas for about 50 quid in the sale. Bit of a bargain as so far the stand has been fine. I think this one, the Lifeline and the Ribble one are all very similar ....

Ah. I've only ever used mine on the top tube, so probably less stress on bracket.

just took delivery of the ribble one today. It'll get a fair bit of use over the next week as I also took delivery of a bob jackson frame - which will be built into my new commuter ;)

Use a bit of cloth under the strap - then it works perfectly.....;)
