It's not just crushing carbon or stripping threads that can be a problem. I snapped a seatpost bolt when out on a ride once. I had been adjusting saddle height and thought 'I'll just lower the saddle 5mm'. I used my multitool and counted the number of turns to undo it, moved the saddle and began tightening it. Got to the last turn and BANG the bolt snapped in half. So then I was stuck 20 miles from home with a broken seat post collar. It was the first and last titanum bolt I will use. Would not have happend with a steel bolt.

BTW, how would you get a torque wrench recalibrated? I have had one for a few years now so it may need it.
